switch or fight

I've begun the (most likely slow) process of switching blog hosts and was trying to make actual progress. But this bit about today's NYTBR prompts me to interrupt my tinkering and post here. It's good to see that someone else had the same yeouch reaction that I did to Curtis Sittenfeld's snarky review of Melissa Bank's new book. Meaning that The Wonder Spot is not one, she writes: "Good novels allow us to feel what the characters feel, no matter how dissimilar their circumstances and ours." Really? Just novels? How about nonfiction books? TV shows? Song lyrics? And, in honor of the Tonys -- one of my prep school classmates took one home, much to my glee -- Broadway musicals? Do readers of the NYTBR really need to be told what a good novel should do? I think an editor was snookered after a BEA party and blearily let it slide.

Tuesday Pinky will be live again with a pile of music 4:30pm Pacific on www.killradio.org. See who's coming after that.

I don't think they let it slide by accident. My guess is that they love stirring that kind of ugly pot!
